About
About CTAA
The Chinese Taipei Alpine Association (CTAA), founded in 1926, is the oldest mountaineering organization in Taiwan. With nearly a century of history, CTAA is dedicated to promoting mountaineering, hiking, and sport climbing, while enhancing public health and
advancing outdoor education.
International Representation
CTAA represents Taiwan in major international organization, including:
• UIAA – International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation
• UAAA – Union of Asian Alpine Association
• IFSC – International Federation of Sport Climbing
• IML – International Marching League
• IVV – International Federation of popular sports
Through active participation in international affairs, CTAA promotes global exchange, friendship, and cooperation within the mountain and outdoor sports community.
Major Areas of Activity
1. High-Altitude Mountaineering
CTAA established the Taiwan 100 Peaks Club after completing the Central Mountain Range Traverse in 1971, initiating the modern era of climbing Taiwan’s 100 Peaks.
In 1995, CTAA achieved a historic milestone as the first Taiwan-organized team to summit Mount Everest.
In 2014, CTAA facilitated the 'Friendship Mountain Agreement' between Yushan (Taiwan) and Mount Fuji (Japan).
Since 2020, the Association has actively supported national high-mountain trail signage projects.
2. International Walking (IML / IVV)
CTAA organizes internationally certified walking events under IML and IVV, attracting
thousands of participants annually.
3. Sport Climbing
As a member federation of IFSC, CTAA manages national sport climbing teams for the Olympic Games and Asian Games. The Association organizes national championships, youth competitions, coaching and judging seminars, and participates in IFSC World Cups, World
Championships, Asian Championships, and Olympic qualification events.
4. River Tracing & Technical Activities
CTAA has hosted the National River Tracing Convention for over 27 consecutive years, promoting technical development and safety standards across Taiwan.
5. Education & Certification
Through the Mountain Education and Safety Training Center, CTAA provides systematic training programs from foundational to advanced levels. The Association is officially recognized by Taiwan’s Sports Administration as a certified institution for Mountain Guide
qualification training and examinations.
Vision & Mission
With nearly a century of legacy, CTAA upholds the enduring values of mountaineering — courage, responsibility, sustainability, and international friendship. The Association continues to collaborate with domestic and international partners to promote healthy,
sustainable, and globally connected outdoor sports.
